If so, we invite you to join our team at Idaho Disability Determinations Services (IDDS), where we perform medical adjudication for Social Security Administration (SSA) disability claims for the citizens of Idaho.

Position overview: As a medical and psychological consultant contractor, you will play a vital role in our disability determination process. Your expertise will be critical in reviewing SSA disability claims and providing valuable insights to support fair and accurate decisions.

Position details:

  • Flexible hours: We offer both full-time and part-time positions, accommodating even as little as 15 hours a week, allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Telework after training: After completing the initial training, you will have the option to telework, providing you with a convenient and comfortable work environment in any part of the United States.
  • Flexible training schedule: We understand your busy schedule, and therefore, training hours can be arranged to fit around your availability. All training is conducted in person in our Boise office.
  • 1099 contractor status: All medical contractors are 1099 employees and as such you may want to contact a tax professional regarding possible tax benefits this may have for you.

Requirements:

  • You must hold a valid and active license to practice as a physician, psychologist or psychiatrist in Idaho. We encourage all medical specialties to apply including: Family practice, cardiology, neurology, physical medicine and rehab, orthopedics, dermatology, obstetrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, oncology, pediatrics, psychiatry, pulmonology, psychology and gastroenterology.
  • Medical liability insurance is not required.
  • We have part-time and full-time positions that allow you to find a schedule that fits your personal and professional life.
  • Required to obtain and pass a federal background check.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing SSA disability claims and medical evidence thoroughly, via electronic record review, to determine if disability applicants meet the Social Security definition of disability.
  • Collaborating with the a team to ensure accurate and fair disability determinations.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all relevant guidelines and regulations.

Consultative examiners (CE)

Medical providers throughout Idaho perform physical and mental consultative examinations (CEs) that contribute to the DDS disability decisions. As part of the medical development process, the DDS tries to obtain evidence from the claimant’s own treating sources first.

However, if that evidence is unavailable or insufficient to determine whether a claimant is disabled, the DDS will arrange for a consultative examination in order to obtain the additional information needed. In these instances, the DDS authorizes physicians, psychologists and other health professionals to perform these examinations.

Become a disability determination adjudicator

As a disability determination examiner for the U.S. Social Security Administration, you will be a decision maker, policy interpreter, investigator and customer service representative who will help support Idahoans who are applying for disability benefits.

Look for openings at the Idaho Division of Human Resources.

The Idaho Disability Determinations Service performs the medical adjudication for the Social Security Administration, of Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income disability claims for the citizens of the State of Idaho. 

The DDS does not receive claims directly from applicants. Social Security offices throughout the state send claims for SSDI and SSI benefits to the DDS for review and adjudication of the medical portion of the application.
